Rent control is being pursued by localities all over California. In the future, even more properties may be at risk. Voters rejected a statewide referendum measure to expand rent control in 2018. But the pressure on local and state politicians to regulate rents will continue. Other forms of regulation are also increasing.
This petition is for property owners and all citizens who understand that our state’s housing crisis cannot be solved by government imposed regulation of rents!
We know that the only approach that can help large numbers of people is to increase the supply of housing. If you agree with that simple premise, please sign. We will forward signatures each month to policymakers in Sacramento and in local jurisdictions who face political pressure to enable or to enact rent control. You name will be shared with public officials.

PETITION IN OPPOSITION TO GOVERNMENT REGULATION OF RENTS
The undersigned calls on California’s state and local governments to help bring about moderation of increases in rents for housing and to increase availability of affordable housing by encouraging more housing construction and NOT by enabling or passing more rent control laws that let governments decide what owners can charge for rent. We call on city and county officials to remove restrictions and delays on the development and rehabilitation of housing, and roll back the many costs they impose on housing development and operation. Regulating rents solves nothing for the vast majority of people struggling to find housing: Expansion of rent control may actually hurt more tenant than it helps by discouraging construction.
